Community unites for brave Nicola
THOUSANDS of euro have been raised in the first week of a major fundraising drive for Nicola McDonnell, the 25-year-old Rathmullen woman who suffered severe spinal injuries following a freak accident. A family fun day ended in tragedy when Nicola fell from a bouncy castle. She has spent the last number of months in hospital at the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Dun Laoghaire but is planning to return home. She suffered damage to her neck area and is now confined to a wheelchair.
Highs and lows won't be forgotten
THERE was a surreal atmosphere on the 7.30pm train out of Connolly last Saturday. It was packed with Louth fans, standing room only. In one corner a young man from Clogherhead was playing cards with a woman and a small boy from Dundalk. As the game wore on, you realised they'd never met before, until a train bound for north Louth. It was typical of what Louth's epic odyssey has brought to the community feeling within the county.

A MAN-eating jellyfish has been found by the side of the River Boyne at Mornington! Well, that was the view of one Drogheda Independent reader who came across it at the weekend! 'I was shocked when I saw it. It was huge, it looked as if it could eat someone!,' the startled local remarked. They came across the giant jellyfish just at the mouth of the Boyne at low tide.

Big birthday celebrations on double
SCHOOL friends Michael Carter and Paul Moore who have known each other since they went to St Joseph's CBS together held a joint 21st in the Star Bar recently. Michael, Flanagan's Terrace was accompanied by his girlfriend, Sarah Dyas, from Ballsgrove. Paul, whose family hail from Pearse Park, was there with his girlfriend, Lorna from Moneymore.
