Witnesses key to Clogher assault
CLOGHERHEAD was in shock after local man, Errol Dunne (pictured left) was gravely assaulted on Harbour Road, early on Sunday morning. The 25-year-old fisherman from a popular, wellknown family was out among crowds of people, many of whom were celebrating parish confirmations, which took place earlier.

THE Drogheda Independent has learned that the fire stations in Drogheda and Dundalk could be unmanned from 11pm to 8am as part of a review to streamline the services.

Emma on the road to recovery
THE parents of four-year-old Stamullen girl Emma Howard Byrne are still at her bedside in the Royal Brompton Hospital, London, where she is recovering from a lung operation carried out last week. The treatment for her breathing difficulties is said to have been very severe on the little girl, however doctors at the London hospital are reportedly happy with her progress to date.

THE owner of a local supermarket in Tullyallen has been left angry and frustrated after his shop was again targeted in a robbery. The hold-up is the third to take place at the local Mace Supermarket in the last 12 months.
Drink sensibly on Paddy's Day appeal local Gardai
GARDA traffic restrictions will be place from 10am on St Patrick's Day to facilitate the parade and will remain until after 2pm. Diversions will be in place for traffic because the North Road, Cement Road, Windmill Road and Crosslanes will all be closed off. The town centre will be closed from 11am along with a number of side streets.
Property damaged by burst water pipe
THOUSANDS of gallons of water were lost following a burst pipe at Pitcher Hill, much to the annoyance of local residents, who also reported damage to property. However, local councillor Paul Bell was informed by council officials that there simply isn't enough hours in the day and manpower to cover the workload.
Dismal Drogs are humbled by slick UCD
DROGHEDA United succumbed to a lightning fast display from Premier Division new boys UCD on Friday night. A Ciaran Kilduff brace either side of a Greg Bolger strike gave the visitors all three points and consigned Alan Mathews' side to the foot of the table. A win for the Boynesiders would have equalled their points tally from the first 10 games of last season, but it wasn't to be as the First Division champions got their league campaign off to the best possible start.
