- Baltray resident Gary Murphy carded a course-record 64 during the Irish PGA Championship at Seapoint, but he finished 'only' second to Simon Thornton, with veteran Des Smyth back in a tie for third.
- Speculation over Drogheda native Killian Brennan's future at Bohemians was called into question again after he played a friendly match for English Championship club Coventry City during the League of Ireland's summer break.
Drogheda girl Megan Campbell made her competitive debut for the Republic of Ireland senior ladies team at the age of 18.
New Drogheda Town boss Pete Brennan sounded an optimistic note about Drogheda Town making an immediate return to the Leinster Senior League's top flight, following relegation, and Martin Smith's goal got them off to a winning start at Greystones.
But Boyne Rovers made the shock decision to withdraw from the LSL altogether, after they finished bottom of Division 1B the previous spring.

Meanwhile, Shane Monahan from neighbouring Mornington switched from Connacht to English club Rotherham Titans in a bid to relaunch his stalled career.
Ardee RFC had reason to celebrate after beating their more illustrious neighbours Boyne and Dundalk in becoming Louth's first club to have operational floodlights.
- Drumconrath brothers James and Austin Hickey represented Ireland at the World Drugfree Powerlifting Championships where they won five gold medals between them.
- There was a unique overall outcome to Drogheda Wheelers CC'S annual Mark Mullen Memorial Cycling League as brothers Ciaran and Gearoid Campbell from the host club
won the Senior and Underage titles.
Ciaran went on to win the Under-16 event in the Brendan Campbell Memorial Race, named after his grandfather, and then the Leinster Youths title.
Craig Sweetman from Stamullen M Donnelly won the Mountnugent GP handicap race, despite starting with the 'scratch' group, and his clubmates Paul Dargle, Ciaran O'connell and Danny Bruton triumphed in the AllIreland Youth Championship team event.
- Dunleer AC'S Tomas Cotter was crowned National Senior champion for the 3,000m steeplechase in a new personal best of nine minutes, bringing joy to a club still mourning the death of long-time mentor Larry Mcguill.
Two of Dunleer's members qualified for the Senior Men's 800m final - Darragh Greene and Fintan Reilly.
The versatile Amy Mcteggart from Boyne AC claimed the National Under-16 Combined Events title, but only just, winning the final discipline - the 800m - by 12 seconds to snatch top spot.
At the other end of the age spectrum, Drogheda & District's Jonathan Mccabe produced a lifetime best time of 5:04 for 1500m to snatch gold in the Masters age group.
Star of the Sea high jumper Kourosh Foroughi entered the World University Championships ranked 19th and ended the competition ninth after a brilliant performance in Shenzhen City, China.
Olivia Mcdonald (St Peter's) claimed javelin bronze at the National Senior Track & Field Championships, and her clubmate Maria Duffy won gold in the Over-45 long jump and silver in the javelin at the Irish Masters Championships - after a four-year break from national competition.
And there was joy for Jonathan Commins (Ardee & District) who won National Community Games gold in the Under-10 100m.
- Robert Cannon (Laytown & Bettystown) made a strong bid for his second South of Ireland Championship title in two years at Lahinch, before bowing out to the eventual champion Stephen Walsh in the semi-finals.
- Local winners at the NE Junior Tennis Championships held at Bettystown were Annraoi Collins, Hugo Dwyer, Eoghan Mccullen, Caoimhe Dunne and Francesca Costin.
- Louth Hunt Pony Club's team of Aideen Fay, Rebecca Angel, Aoife Fay and Rebecca Matthews won the National Tetrathon Championship, consisting of pistol and rifle shooting, swimming, cross-country running and horse riding.
