Down down Kerry
Saturday July 31 2010
Down sent all-Ireland football champions Kerry crashing out with a sensational 1-16 to 1-10 quarter-final win at Croke Park.
Mark Poland's goal after just 52 seconds stunned the Kingdom, who staged a brief revival with three Colm Cooper points, but trailed by 1-7 to 0-4 at half-time after McComiskey and Martin Clarke had hit two each.
Clarke excelled as playmaker, and finished with four points, while Kerry depended heavily on Cooper (0-7), and their goal, a David Moran penalty in stoppage time, was merely of consolation value.
