Drama about Hitler's rise

Wednesday February 17 2010

BRUISER return to the Droichead with The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui, one of Brecht's best known plays.

It runs on Friday, February 19th at the Stockwell Street theatre.

It is an alarming and savagely hilarious allegory of Hitler's rise to power, in which the Fuhrer is portrayed as charismatic Chicago gangster Arturo Ui, endeavouring to seize the city's fruit and vegetable racket from top-dog Al Capone.

He systematically seduces the public and eliminates his political rivals in his bid for total domination.

This is political theatre at its best and most powerful.

Six actor/musicians will play over 50 characters to bring this powerful story to life in the true Bruiser physical style.

Director Lisa May has been itching to have a crack at 'Arturo Ui' since Bruiser tackled Brecht's great masterpiece ' The Threepenny Opera' to great acclaim around the country in 2005.

They fared well with Mack The Knife, so she's ready to wrestle with Arturo Ui!

The cast is Tony Devlin, Damien Hasson, Daithi Mac Suibhne, Charlie Murphy, Patrick J O'Reilly, Jack Walsh. Lighting Design:Sean Paul O'Rawe.

Tickets € 15/€12.
