BMW to preview new Superbike at Irish show

BMW Ireland is to preview one of the first S1000RR Superbikes ever produced to the Irish public at The Carole Nash Irish Motorbike & Scooter Show RDS Dublin February 27th - March 1st 2009.
The preview is mark the German marque's first time particpation in the World Superbike Championship in March. To compete in the WSB all entrants must put the bikes that are been raced into general production. The racing bikes will be fairly close to serial production models allowing for the greater audience identification with the sport.
The S1000RR has a 999cc in-line 4-cylinder engine which is very compact and light and produces about 200bhp. The dry weight of the motorcycle is 183 kg which is achieved through its light carbonfibre bodywork, aluminium beam frame and innovative design. The engine has a very compact cylinder head and is narrow in shape. The valves are activated by means of very small, light cam followers, virtually at Formula 1 level in terms of their dimensions.
This construction ensures very high engine speeds and allows maximum freedom in engine design in terms of torque and output. Unlike many competitors in the Superbike segment the BMW S 1000 RR, has a completely newly developed sports ABS featuring four different modes as well as the dynamic traction control system DTC. The distinctive design of the S 1000 RR reflects clearly the brand BMW. The new S1000RR will be available in the four finishes: Mineral Silver metallic, Acid Green metallic, Thunder Grey metallic and - based on the BMW Motorrad racing colours - Alpine White/Lupine Blue/Magma Red.
In addition to the superbike and the other new 2009 bike launches, BMW will have Simon Pavey on the stand for the weekend to offer expert advice and opinion.
Simon has just completed the 2009 Dakar Rally and is considered to be an off road guru. He is also now very well known for his part in preparing Ewan McGreggor and Charley Boorman for their Long Way and Dakar escapades. The serial production machine BMW S1000RR will be presented to the public in the early summer of 2009 but can already be ordered.
