Congratulations for standing up to party political campaign
Dear Sir,
Congratulations on your page one comment of January 25, direct, without fear or favour to the point.
No doubt you will get a lot of comment critical of it. It is however in the tradition of the DI, since its first issue over 100 years ago. It was from the outset a paper that wore its heart on its sleeve when it came to the Rights of the People.
Section 31 of the Broadcasting Act was used by the Government to prevent the representatives of the Provisional IRA and their fellow travellers to use the National media to promote their message. It was repealed some years ago. It was reintroduced in Drogheda at the Cottage Rally where the elected Representatives of the People were prevented from speaking.
This campaign has become Political, party political.
I have spoken before on the issue, so nuff said.
Congratulations again on reaching into the heart of the matter, no doubt you will get enough complaints from the supporters of the new Section 31.
Yours, Gerry Floyd,
Drogheda.
