Drogheda high on honeymoon search list
ALL THE hard work on RTE'S Local Heroes programmes seems to have paid off as the number of newly-weds checking out Drogheda in December as a honeymoon destination online has jumped by an incredible 286% from the same period last year.
The list, compiled by website Hotels.com, shows Drogheda as the second highest searched by Irish couples for a home honeymoon, just being pipped at the post by Westmeath and Longford on a 308% bump! But before we get too carried away, it's probably best to note that exotic honeymoon destinations appear to be back in vogue and Zanzibar, Antigua, the Maldives, Cancun and Mauritius topped the list for Irish travellers in December 2011.
According to the most recent figures, searches for Zanzibar in December were up 489% while Antigua and Mauritius were up 484% and 467% respectively.
