YOUTH international trialist Richie Kelly, the Boyne Rovers player, will sign for Drogheda United this week.

His decision ends one of the hottest chases between local rivals Dundalk and Drogheda, for the services of the 17 year old.

Kelly met United boss Ray Treacy after a match with Bohemians and stated 'I was very impressed with Ray and I think I have a better future with Drogheda.'

Kelly was approached by Tommy Connolly, the Dundalk youth team manager, following an impressive spell with Boyne Rovers. Jim Mclaughlin also watched him on a few occasions.

Kelly was invited to sign for Dundalk and looked set to join the Oriel Park club.

However reports reached Drogheda and they moved quickly to talk to him.

Chairman Tom Mcbride, secretary Charlie Hurley and Treacy all met the player.
