Louth model Monique is tipped for the top

Wednesday November 30 2011

A LOUTH model has been tipped as the next Agyness Deyn thanks to her edgy style and trademark blonde crop.

Monique Bryson Clarke (23), from Castlebellingham was signed to the Dublin based Assets agency in September, and is being hailed as the one to watch in the modelling industry.

'It's something I've really been keen on doing since I was scouted by an agency in London in 2006. But I was doing my Leaving Cert at the time, and really wanted to finish my studies and go to college.'

A former Dundalk Grammar School student, Monique duly completed her Leaving and went on to study at NUI Maynooth. But her flair in front of the camera saw her working with Dundalk photographer, Martin Mcelligott.

'Martin was great to work, and I was able to put a portfolio together which really helped,' said Monique.

From there, the stunning mid-louth model secured a number of jobs including becoming the face of a billboard campaign for the Quays Shopping Centre in Newry, and also worked with the Hair Shop in Dundalk on the L'oreal Colour Trophy awards.

Currently studying for a MA in Irish History in Politics from University of Ulster in Jordanstown, Monique says she was ' thrilled' to be signed by Assets. 'I've been quite busy so far and it's brilliant - I've done fashion slots on TV3'S Ireland AM and photo shoots with Vero Moda and Trespass magazine.'

As for the Agyness Deyn comparisons, Monique adds: 'I don't think I'm anywhere near that level! But it's obviously coming from having the same hairstyle.'

A former competitive swimmer, she has also been balancing her modelling career with her work as a swimming coach at JJB in Dundalk.

In fact it was her years spent training in swimming pools which inspired her pixie hairdo.

'Most models have long hair, so maybe I Iook a little different with my short hair, and can offer something unique.

'I'm definitely very inspired by the likes of Erin O'connor and Agyness Deyn, I think they're fabulous.'
