A LITTLE bit of Termonfeckin was celebrating in Lanzarote when locals Patrick McDermott and his sister, Carmel Hageman, enjoyed their 50th and 60th birthday parties on the island recently. Carmel, who has lived in Laytown for many years, explained that her brother told her last year that she should come along because 'we are all going to celebrate my birthday in the sun'. Laughing, she says there wasn't much else she could do although her husband, Jan Hageman, who doesn't like the sun, decided to sit this one out. 'It was just as well because the temperatures hit 36c!,' she added.
The siblings held two separate parties and Carmel was delighted when their sister Joan Campbell and her husband, Ray, arrived in the week.
later
Patrick's wife, Helena, his daughter, Laura, son Jason as well as Laura's friend Kate Lynch from Greenbatter, Helena's mother, Mary Morgan, who is from Kilsaran and her son, Thomas Morgan also joined the celebrations.
Helena's other sister, Sandra and husband, Tom, also flew out to Lanzarote along with their little sons, TJ and Andrew.
' We had a great week, the food was lovely, and the weather was very hot which was wonderful,' added Carmel.
'We went to a restaurant for both parties and they were great and we even got free drinks and a big chocolate party cake.'
Neither Carmel nor Patrick are planning any more celebrations anytime soon although she is considering going back for another family member's milestone birthday next year.
