Once again this area's rich sporting traditions were celebrated in style at the annual Drogheda Independent Sport Star of the Year Awards held in association with our partners Beverage Business Solutions and the Boyne Valley Hotel.
The awards came of our age last Friday night, as this year was the 21st staging of the event and during that time some wonderful names have illuminated the awards.
Again this year's winner was a very worthy receipient as over the years not just this past year, Christy Grimes has played a key role in the success of his club Mattock Rangers in winning the Joe Ward Cup on three occasions.
Nearer the end than the start of his playing days in the red and black of Mattock Rangers, Christy once again rose to the occasion in the Senior Final against Cooley Kickhams when he was the deserved winner of the man of the match award.
Young sport star, Jordan Keogh is a 16-year-old man in a hurry, as he has taken Motocross by storm and looks like having a very bright future in this sport.
Hall of fame winner, Bobby Browne should need no introduction to hundreds of golfers throughout the region, as over the years he has introduced hundreds and hundreds of youngsters to his beloved game, which he excelled at on the professional circuit for very many years.
Boyne RFC were presented with an award in recognition of their first ever Towns Cup success.
Main award winners apart, what a night like last Friday's awards remind us of is how much talent, dedication and commitment is out there, particularly amongst younger members of our community, who let's be honest don't always get the credit they deserve.
Sport can be inspiriational and uplifting and boy do we all need some of that.
Well done to one and all.
