SCHOOL STARS ON THE HUNT FOR TOP ACTS FROM AROUND THE REGION

Wednesday September 01 2010

TALENTED schoolchildren in the region are set for a shot at stardom thanks to a new school stars competition to be staged in the TLT later this year.

School Stars, the No 1 talent show for schools, and sponsored by CocaCola, was launched on Friday in Scotch Hall. It will cater for both primary and secondary school students and the organisers want all types of acts to enter, from dancers and singers to comedians, bands and choirs.

The first thing to do is to get an application form before September 27th and you can pick these up from your school or www.schoolstars.ie or contact the organisers, Patrick Leddy (0876886782) and Stewart Agnew (087-6140961). The forms are then returned to the Sound Shop.

The winning primary school act will pocket € 3,000 for their school and €1,000 for the individual or act. There's also a runners up prize of €1,000 for the school and €500 for the act. The secondary school competition will see the same prizes, adding up to a fund of €11,000.

The auditions will take place in the TLT on October 3rd and 10th and then it's down to the quarter-finals and semifinals in October and November with the finals on December 1st and 2nd.

Joe Rooney from Fr Ted and Killinaskully fame will be the compere so there should be great fun to be had throughout.

The Drogheda Independent and LMFM are the media backers with AIB, Sound Shop and Scotch Hall all backing the venture, along with Coca-Cola through Beverage Business Solutions (BBS).

Gerry Leydon from BBS is delighted to be associated with such a high profile event for young people.

'The Coca-Cola School Stars offers young actors, musicians, comedians, singers and other artists, free of charge, a great opportunity to gain valuable experience in their field,' he stated.

'Word on the street is there are even discussions going on with certain TV shows'.
