Busy few weeks at St. Joseph's

Wednesday February 01 2012

As of last Monday, January 30, a full breakfast will be offered freely to all students from 8.15—8.45 a.m. at St Joseph's Secondary School on the Termonfeckin Road.

Sponsored by Kelloggs, Total Produce and Avonmore, breakfast will be offered to early comers each morning. The venture is sponsored by the Parents' Council who are contributing €500 to start the project.

Other fundraising is planned in the coming months which will include a fashion show in March, a soccer blitz and a concert

Hurling training has commenced at lunch time on Thursday and Fridays in the gym for all first and second years

Links have been forged with the local Tredagh Boxing club who will be organising boxing for juniors on Wednesdays at lunchtime in the gym. The Tredagh Club will also be using the gym on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursday nights at 7 p.m. for training, and are looking for new members.

Recently, Theresa Woods from the Drogheda Women's and Children's Refuge visited the school to say thanks for the donations to the food appeal organised by the students and the €800 donated by the management and staff. Ms. Woods reported that, last year, 23 children aged four months to 17 years spent Christmas in the refuge and, due to ongoing support, the important work of the refuge can continue especially now in this time of recession.

In an astounding win over Colaiste Choilm Tullamore the Under 14 footballers reached the finals of the North Leinster. The main scorers on the day were Ciaran Downey 1.4, Ross Nally, 1.2, Ross Guildea 1.1 and Emmet Carolan

After comprehensive victories over Gormanston College and Colaiste na hinse in 2011 St. Josephs Juniors play Moyne CS in their first game of the Junior Development Shield. In their most recent training session the lads have shown some real fire and Captain Adam Brodigan (3rd year) and his men are working hard.

Mr. Webb and Mr. Mccreery have accepted an invitation from Blackrock College, Dublin for a friendly match to be played in the coming weeks.

The soccer team in the school is enjoying a great run of results at the moment with a seven game unbeaten record leading them to a regional final along with a Leinster Cup quarter final. Both of these games are to be played in the next two weeks. The last two victories were against the same team which they happened to get in both competitions, Colaiste Ris CBS from Dundalk. In the first game, which was played at the school pitch, nothing separated the teams by the time the final whistle went. In extra time with a wonder goal from Arnold Masamba and a late finish from Ryan Connor the deal was sealed for the team.

The second game against Colaiste Ris saw the teams fighting for a place in this year's north east Leinster final. Weather conditions were appalling but the St. Joseph's boys dug deep and came from behind to win 2-1 after a spectacular strike from Conor Moore to level the teams and then a late winner from Craig Pentony. Other fantastic performances came from team captain Manuel Kaguako, Leigh Synnott, Ronan Hoey, Tobi Oladapo, and Jason Cronan.

Students from the Key Programme will be attending their second residential in Hollywood, Co. Antrim, at the beginning of February. During this residential, from February 6 to 8, they will be interviewed by members of the business community and will be learning how to carry out interviews.

The Registration Forms for the coming year can be found on the website www.droghedacbs.ie and have to be submitted on March 15.
