Fizzy project goes pop at science fair
FIFTH Class students in Harestown NS showed their aptitude for scientific research recently after taking part in Primary Science Fair at the BT Young Scientists Exhibition.
Their project was entitled ' Does Fizzy Make You Dizzy?' and was overseen by their class teacher, Mr. Ian Mckinny.
For their project, the pupils gave some of their schoolmates lemonade to drink and then tested whether the sugary drink affected their ability to memorise information.
All the children tested had to try and remember the names of twelve different faces.
The class were surprised to find that sugary drink does not seem to affect children's ability to remember information. The group of children who drank the lemonade got the same average score as another group that drank water.
The children had a great day at the RDS and enjoyed answering questions from members of the public about their project.
They were especially excited when President Higgins came by and some of the class even got to meet him.
