Phil’s husband Stephen is travelling to South Africa with the Niall Mellon Trust in March and needs to raise €5,000, card available in September. More details later. Patrons can join in on the night. To become a leader is very simple. Carers News The Tullyallen Carers are currently making plans for their trip to The Japanese Gardens and National Stud next, Wednesday August 20th. The more senior members of the parish will be taken out for the day and treated to a bit of lunch and I’m told they will also have a little surprise on the way. The departing times are to be announced next week, so watch out for the parish bulletin at next weeks masses for further details. Glen Emmets Under nine news PH McGrane was on the side lines of the recent Glen Emmets Blitz and wrote the following report. The Glen Emmets U10s escaped the horrific weather to take part in a mega blitz in Tyrone. The Emmets took part in four games. In the first game the Tullyallen side played Kildress and were behind at half time but came out storming in the second-half won the match comfortably. After that they played against Donaghmore and won. In the third game Emmets suffered their only defeat to the hosts Pomeroy. In their final match the Tullyallen side played against Ardboe and came away with the victory. Playing for Glen Emmets were: Evan English, Dylan Floyd, Alan Mc Grane, Sean Birch, Euan Reid, Scott Murphy, Taigdh Sheridan, Brian Mooney, James Russell, Conor Branigan and Kealan O' Neill. Cúl camp The VHI GAA Cul Football Camp will take place at Pairc Naomh Feichin from Monday August 18th to Friday August 22nd. The camp runs from 10am to 2.20pm daily and is open to boys and girls aged six to 13 years of age. The VHI Cúl Camp involves coaching of the specific skills of the game and an opportunity for participants to put into practice what they have learned. Blessing of graves The annual blessing of the graves brought huge attendances to both Cemeteries despite the atrocious weather conditions. Again we acknowledge those who worked hard to maintain the cemeteries in excellent condition and also those whose loved ones are laid to rest. However the dumping of waste material outside the Old Cemetery Wall has caused a lot of anger and concern with many calls made to have it highlighted in this column. Our Parish Priest Fr Aidan Murphy also made an appeal for it to stop at the conclusion of the ceremony in the Old Cemetery. Any waste should be take

How I remember that morning so well (yes, I can remember back that far) the best of luck to all the students in the Collon area and I hope you get the results that you want. Enjoy the celebrations. Boxing The Collon/Philipstown Boxing Club will resume training on Monday next August 18th in the parochial hall at 7.30pm. Training will continue every Monday and Thursday evenings from 7.30 until 9pm. New members welcome. 21st and 80th birthdays Congratulations and best wishes to David Deevey on his 21st birthday. To mark this special occasion there was a big party in Matthews Lounge last Saturday week. It was a double celebration as David’s granddad Gerry was celebrating his 80th birthday. David is a son of Frank and Fiona and needless to say it was a great night for both birthday boys. 15th birthday Special birthday wishes to Emmet Murray who celebrated his 15th birthday last Sunday. I had the pleasure of spending some time in his company at the weekend. I have no doubt that he will be the envy of his friends when they learn that Emmet received 15 kisses from a stunning Italian lady who was also present. Emmet took it all in his stride and had a great day. All his family and friends wish him all the best for many more happy birthdays. Another 21st Congratulations and best wishes to James Duffy who celebrated his 21st over the weekend. A party was held in Watters lounge, where all his family and friends joined with James to party the night away. Christening Congratulations to happy couple Sarah and Shane Irwin on the christening of their new baby son Adam that took place on Saturday last. I had the privilege of being at a grad party the other night (Looking great Graham) and its just great to see all the effort everyone goes to, to make it such a wonderful night.
