Dunleer Jobs and Business EXPO/ MidLouth Trade show 2010

ON last Wednesday, March 3rd, Dunleer Community Development Board, in association with the Mid-Louth Traders Association, held this year's Dunleer Business and Jobs EXPO in Lannleire Pavilion, Dunleer, Co Louth.

The DCDB had been planning this exhibition for several months, and they were absolutely delighted at the amazing response from traders and the public to our event.

There was a tremendous turnout by exhibitors, some of whom included the following: Fás, Enterprise Ireland Louth Leader Partnership Louth County Enterprise Board (LCEB) Dundalk Institute of Technology (DKIT)

There were over 60 businesses exhibiting, including food producers, web site consultants, security systems, insurers, garden landscapers, kitchen fitters, elegant clothes, cosmetics, jewellery, beauticians, home heating solutions.

And also exhibits from local community and sporting organisations. It is fair to say the Executive of the DCDB were very happy with the successful day, as a result of our hard work, and viewed each stand with great interest, noting in particular the effort that went into each one.

Of the exhibitors on display, the DCDB Executive Committee considered Mooremount Kitchens stand as the best turned out on the day, and highly commended them.

Mr Seamus Walker, of Mooremount Kitchens, was asked how the EXPO had been for him and his business?

The EXPO trade fair had been a great success from a local business point of view, Seamus said. When asked was there anything he would like to say to the DCDB as to how the EXPO was organised, he replied: 'We found the event to be very well organised, and the presentation of the event was very inviting. As a company, we are very much looking forward to another trade show being organised by Dunleer Community Development Board in the near future.'

The Dunleer Community Development Board would like to thank the Mid-Louth Traders Association for their participation in organising the event with us on this occasion, Lannleire GFC for the use of the Lannleire Pavilion Complex, the many exhibitors, and you, the public, who came to support your local businesses. Despite all the doom and gloom prevalent, it is heartening to know there is a sense of optimism among our local businesses.

On another note, we would also like to wish the organisers of Dunleer's 2010 St Patrick's Day Parade every success, and best wishes from the DCDB. We wish you well. We hope it is a great day for all involved.

You can follow the DCDB on their website www.dunleer.net and on Facebook under 'Dunleer Town'.

THERE was a great turn out for the 'Spring Clean Up' of Termonfeckin Village last Saturday. Congratulations and well done to all who took part as the first clean up was described as a great success.

It is understood that a skip was fully filled in the process. Let us hope that there will be plenty of respect shown to the village and all attempts made to keep it tidy and improve its appearance. There will be another attempt made on Saturday 20th March and there are plans to tackle what are considered to be black spots or eyesores in the village. If you are interested, please meet at the car park of the Waterside Inn at 11am.

THE Irish Blood Transfusion Service (IBTS) would like to thank all 89 donors who attended the recently held clinic in St. Patrick's National School, Slane. A special thank you to our Local Voluntary Organiser, Jim Mooney, Slane Red Cross, and to Linda Dillon for their help and support prior to and during the holding of the clinic.

Also, thank you to Liz Sheridan, Principal for the use of the school facilities.

A breakdown of the total figures shows that 4 former donors and 6 new donors attended the clinic. This was an increase of 13 Donors on our last visit in September, 2009.

The IBTS would like to thank everyone who attended on the night.

About 70,000 patients are transfused with blood each year in Irish Hospitals. To do this we must collect approximately 3,000 donations of blood each and every week from voluntary donors like you.

Finally on behalf of all the patients in hospital who benefit from your generosity a heartfelt thank you to all who attended or helped our Slane clinic in any way

THE club had boxers competing in the Michael Andrews Tournament held in the National Stadium in Dublin and the Leinster Championships in Athy Co Kildare in February and were a credit to our club. Eoin Dillon beat Tom Doran from Carlow on a computer score of 8 pts in the semi final. Eoin was up against the 2009 All Ireland Champion Patrick Joyce in the final and he lost on a computer score of 9 to 6. Eoin boxed very well and had Joyce on the back foot for the three rounds but Joyce's experience stood to him in the end.

At 27 kgs Dylan Carter lost out on a score of 6 to 4 to the strong Dundalk boxer Chris O'Grady. Patrick Hand was beaten in the semi final by Portlaoise boxer Hugh Nevin on a score of 8 to 6. Pat Usher was beaten by Glen Holt on a score of 5 to 3. Alan Downey was up against the 2009 All Ireland Camp John Maughan. Alan put up a great show and carried the fight to Maughan for the three rounds only to lose out narrowly 9 to 7. Niall Carrie lost out in the semi final to Mick McIntire from Offaly on a score of 12 to 6. In the Leinster Youths Jamie Fox beat Colm Corcoran from Callan on a score of 9 to 4 in the semi final. He boxed the very strong Wexford boxer Dean Kenney in the final and lost narrowly 9 to 7. His opponent got away with a lot of spoiling tactics and knocked Jamie out of his stride.
