Super transformation at the Sacred Heart
Wednesday March 10 2010
THE classrooms on the fifth year corridor of the Sacred Heart School have experienced a sudden transformation during the past few weeks.
The traditional navy blue school uniform has been exchanged for traditional Greek costumes, summer dresses, sunhats, surfer shorts, platform boots and surprisingly, lots of luminescent flares.
The usual GHD straightened ponytails and swooping side fringes have been swapped for power volume quiffs, traditional Greek head scarves and summery plaits.
The sound of French and Spanish verbs, Shakespearean sonnets and mathematical theorems echoing from classrooms, have also been momentarily replaced by uplifting renditions of Super Trouper, Voulez Vous, Chiquitia, Money Money Money, The Winner Takes it All, and the legendary Dancing Queen.
Super Trouper Fever has certainly infected the entire school as the fifth year students and staff put the finishing touches to this year's musical production –Super Trouper.
The cast includes: Donna: Aileen Gilchrist, Sophie: Natalia Nolan, Tanya: Dearbhla Mitchell, Rosie: Julia Ashe, Harry: Lauren Mohan, Bill: Sarah McAvinchy, Sam: Kayla Chambers, Sky: Eimear Murphy, Pepper: Meigheann Lyons, Eddie: Megan Carolan, Ali: Kerry Coughlin, Lisa: Caoilainn Kavanagh, Reverend: Emer Eustace, Terence: Denise Burtenshaw, Friends & Soloists: Arlene Heaney and Niamh Teeling.
The producer of this year's show is Ms Anna Madden. The musical director is Mrs Linda Collins and the choreographer is Mrs Gillian Harte, with assistant choreography by Dearbhla Mitchell. The set is designed by Mrs Sharon Stafford and her team of 5th year art students.
Expect another sellout show from the talented actors, singers and dancers of Drogheda's Sacred Heart School as they immerse themselves in the legendry melodies and rhythms of the classic Abba hit singles.
This musical is set in a small village off a Greek island.
Donna Sherlock is a vivacious independent entrepreneur, who left England twenty-one years ago, to escape the entire misery that surrounded her there.
As a single mum, she is determined to establish a wonderful life for her daughter Sophie, and sets up her own business running a successful taverna.
This musical opens a few days before Sophie's wedding to her boyfriend Sky.
Sophie is extremely happy, but there is one thing missing, she does not know the identity of her father. Before she gets married, she is determined to find out who her father is, even though her mum knows nothing about it.
Find out what happens and put a bit of a swing into your spring evenings as the show goes on stage in the Tommy Leddy Theatre on Wednesday, 10th and Thursday, 11th March at 8pm. Tickets priced € 10 and are on sale from the Sacred Heart School Office - 041 9837812.
