The children's charity Variety Ireland will honour Linda Martin with a Variety Gold Heart Award for Outstanding Contribution to Irish Entertainment at a special Charity Lunch at The Grand Hotel, Malahide on Sunday, February 5. Why Linda's getting the award?
Linda is an award-winning singer, TV personality and reality TV judge. She has presented TV shows including RTE'S The Lyrics Board Show, served on the Popstars Panel, been judge on reality shows like You're A Star and starred in musicals like Menopause The Musical. She acted in a TV drama called School Run, has worked on a TV drama alongside Ardal O'hanlon and took part in a sell-out Panto with Jedward and The Beanstalk. She has starred in Cinderella as the Wicked Stepmother, Snow White as the Evil Queen and Robin Hood as herself, at the Olympia Theatre.
Linda has been one of the most successful entrants in the Eurovision and finished second in 1984 with 'Terminal 3'.
The Belfast native began her career with the group Chips in 1969 and spent a number of years with them, but it is as a solo artist that most recognise her.
What is Variety Ireland?
Formed in 1952, Variety Ireland has made a real difference to children's lives throughout Ireland. There are never enough resources to answer every appeal, but thanks to ongoing and generous support, Variety Ireland has been able to spend almost 60 years helping sick, disabled and disadvantaged children in Ireland.
