DROGHEDA ABACAS School for Children with Autism was delighted to be involved with the new website launched recently to help support people affected by autism.

The site is called www. autismsupport. ie and aims to do just that - support parents and carers especially those newly diagnosed.

This project was started as a result of a grant application to the Enhancing Disability scheme and Drogheda ABACAS in conjunction with Irish Autism Action were the main groups involved.

The site was created by Mor Solutions who are very pleased to be involved with such a proactive initiative, to Graham from Mor according O'Rourke Solutions.

'Members of the ABACAS parents have been involved in writing content and testing the site,' said Jacinta Walsh from the school, 'and we also co-ordinated the whole project from Drogheda.

'There was a really creative eyecatching mailpack designed by Neil Gordon from Factorygraphics in William Street which was sent to over 6,000 schools and early intervention centres in conjunction with the website launch as well.'

The aim is to have a one-stop-shop for autism, so that parents have some where to go when they have concerns newly diagnosed.

There are also resources and contacts for all stages of life as well as a dedicated Asperger element to the site.

'We are just adding an online screening tool to the site,' said Jacinta, 'which while not a diagnostic tool, will give parents of toddlers who have a concern an indicator which might prompt them to get further help.

'At least now parents will have somewhere to go as well as being able to link into our online facebook support group and our helpline.
