DROGHEDA girl Donna Kierans got the Christmas present of her life this year, as her boyfriend Alan Byrne got down on one knee and popped the question.

Having said yes, of course, the couple sealed the deal in style on January 23rd with a bash in Harry's Bar and Grill, Mell.

Family and friends gathered to toast the sparkler, and hear details of the forthcoming wedding.

'I got a huge surprise on Christmas Day, as I wasn't expecting it at all,' says Donna, who hails from Green Park, but has bought a house with her fiancé in Aston Village.

'He had everything organised, from the ring to the champagne, and had even asked my parents' permission.'

But it was Donna who organised the party – letting Alan pay, of course – and all her friends turned up to share the bubbly!

'Along with all my great girlfriends, my mum and dad, Valerie and Alan, were there, as were Alan's parents Patricia and Patrick.

'I want to say a big thank you to everyone who came and bought us presents, and we can't wait to start planning for the wedding.'

In fact, the plans for the big day seem well underway, with the date of May 2012 pencilled in, and all the wedding party sorted.

'My friend Leanne Everitt is going to be maid of honour and Leanne Garvey my bridesmaid, and Alan's bestman will be Shane Kirwan, with his brother Graham as groomsman.'

Donna's auntie Bernadette was at the party along with her granny, as well as best friends Linda Larkin, Leanne Everitt, Vicky Farrell, Elaine Clarke, Gemma Leech, Leanne Farrell, Jennifer Nash, and sisters Fiona and Sabrina Kierans.

'Harry's was a great spot to have a party, and the food and staff were brilliant,' adds Donna. 'The owner Stephen was great, and the DJ had us all dancing the night away.'
