Balymakenny Road school seeks pupils
CONSTRUCTION YET TO GO TO TENDER
Wednesday March 10 2010
PARENTS have been invited to enrol their boys and girls in the new Catholic national school for Drogheda, even though the construction contract has not yet been put out to tender.
Scoil Oilibhear Naofa will be a co-educational school which will open its doors on the Ballymakenny Road on September 1st, and enrolments are now being accepted for Junior Infants only.
'This is very significant for the town and for the church,' says Canon Jim Carroll, parish priest of St Peter's.
' The school is being established due to sufficient demand for children to be taught in the Catholic faith, and we just received approval, even though we are still waiting to meet with the department over the tender process.'
With just under six months to go until the opening of the new school, Canon Carroll says he is confident that it will be finished.
'The only way to look at it is 'we will make it happen', he says. 'We are looking forward to receiving enrolments and are also conscious of the good schools in place in the town already.'
The name Scoil Oilibhear Naofa is also a timely tribute to local Saint Oliver Plunkett, as May 23rd this year will be the 90th anniversary of his beatification.
Application forms are available in local press, and on the parish website www.saintpetersdrogheda.ie.
