0DROGHEDA Borough Council engineers moved swiftly to fill in a section of road in Laurence Street that appeared to have collapsed on Monday morning.

The large hole appeared close to the pavement in front of Joe Stafford's delicatessen in Laurence Street, and he says he is happy they repaired the section of road before someone was seriously injured. 'There was always some damage there, but it had been getting worse and it seemed to collapse over the weekend,' said the shop owner.

Council officials were contacted on Tuesday morning by the Drogheda Independent to see if they were aware of the hole, and they said they were sending workers immediately to deal with the issue. The hole had been filled in by Tuesday lunchtime.
