Edinburgh crowds flock to Mad Mary

Wednesday September 01 2010

THE local production of '10 Dates with Mad Mary' has won over the critics at the famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Calipo Theatre Company entertained audiences at the festival with 'Mad Mary' by Yasmine Akram.

Following sell out runs at home in 2009, this one woman show was selected to travel to Edinburgh supported by Culture Ireland to represent Irish Theatre at the festival alongside companies such as Dublin's Corn Exchange and Landmark Theatre companies.

Calipo are delighted with the response from audiences and critics alike with the show receiving a number of five-star reviews.

Caoilfhionn Dunne who plays the title role has received considerable praise from the notoriously hard to please Edinburgh critics with The British Theatre Guide remarking that 'Darren Thorton's direction is immaculate; there is not one false note in the play or production.'

Audiences enjoyed the very Irish humour of the piece and seem to connect with the character. Calipo won't be resting on their laurels though with an Irish tour planned on their return from Edinburgh.

Like Calipo's previous stage hit 'Love is the Drug', Mary will soon be crossing over onto the screen, this time the big screen!

With work having just been completed on the first draft of the '10 dates' screenplay, Calipo are confident that Mary will be gracing cinema screens in the not too distant future.
