MONEY is being earmarked for the provision of the long awaited Termonfeckin footbridge, members of Louth County Council were told at their monthly meeting on Monday.

County Manager Mr Conn Murray said that in drawing up the three-year Capital Programme for 2010-2012 he was making provision to commence the Termonfeckin Footbridge as he knew it was something which the councillors wanted but they were not in a position to proceed last year.

The estimated cost of the bridge is € 300,000 and € 150,000 is to be spent this year with the remainder next year. The project is being funded by money from development levies.

The announcement was welcomed by Cllr Imelda Munster who said it was 'great news' that it was going to be commenced this year. The erection of the bridge would make a great difference to villagers and schoolchildren.
