THERE will be lots of dough this St Patrick's Day, thanks to the owners of the Copper Kettle who will be slicing up their 10kg scone on Peter's Street. Owners Dalia Petuskaite and Asta Marcinkevica wanted to mark Ireland's national day with a giant tribute in aid of the Irish Cancer Society. The two Lithuania natives will be outside their cafe from 10am on St Patrick's Day offering slices of the huge scone to passers-by.
'We wanted to do something for the Irish Cancer Society and also to show people how much we love living in Drogheda. It really has been a home from home for me since I arrived seven years ago,' says Dalia.
Herself and Asta had been school-friends and they decided to go into business together two and half years ago.
In recent months, they have noticed a drop in the number of people on the streets of the town. 'It makes us sad and we wanted to help everyone celebrate St Patrick's Day because we get lots of people into the cafe to watch the parade,' says Asta, who is also a former journalism student and Drogheda Independent correspondent.
Neither of them liked Dublin and prefer living in Drogheda.
