Ledwidge museum re-opens

Wednesday March 17 2010

THE home of the famous Slane poet Francis Ledwidge has re-opened for what is hoped will be another busy tourist season.

Ledwidge Museum underwent general maintenance work over the winter including upgrading the heating system and repainting and is now open seven days a week, 10-5pm, until the autumn.

The birthplace of the poet continues to be a massive attraction to visitors from near and far over the years. It is one of the best preserved Parnell Cottages in the country.

Most tourists are very knowledgeable about Ledwidge and also his involvement in the Great War.

In 2009 tourists from Australia, South Africa, The United States, Belgium, France Italy and the UK visited the museum.

The Ledwidge Museum Committee has an attractive new brochure on the poet and the museum, and is also hoping to attract school tours in the coming months.
