A MAN who was banned from driving for 40 years was arrested for drink driving after gardaí observed his car travelling down the Dublin Road at high speed, Drogheda District Court has heard.
Patrick Ward (27), Killineer Halting site was arrested at the Dublin Road on March 2nd this year.
Garda Evan Connolly told the court that when they stopped the car, there was a strong smell of alcohol and empty beer cans in the back of the vehicle.
A subsequent breath specimen gave a reading of 56mg/100ml of breath.
Solicitor for the Defence Paddy Branigan said his client had a 'chronic' drink problem and simply couldn't seem to deal with it.
He said Ward actually wanted to go to prison so that he could dry out.
The defendant has 61 previous convictions and is banned from driving for 40 years.
Judge Patrick Clyne imposed a four-month sentence but said he would not add to Ward's 40-year disqualification.
