LABOUR TD STUDYING MODELS USED IN UK

LABOUR TD Gerald Nash has reiterated his determination to secure the future of the Drogheda Cottage Hospital and services for older people in Louth and East Meath.
He says he is currently studying trust models used in the UK to determine which model would work best for Drogheda, as well as secured funding to explore the feasibility of building a 50-100 bed unit on the grounds of St Mary's hospital.
'Work on that study is set to commence, but this is the sort of hard background work that will rarely generate headlines but we will persevere with it for the good of Drogheda and its senior citizens in an honest and accountable fashion,' he told the Drogheda Independent.
'I took part in that march as did hundreds of other Drogheda people because I passionately believe in providing the best possible facilities for our senior citizens.'
He says his sole focus now is on working to preserve the future of the Cottage Hospital and working to advance the community trust model suggested by the Minister. 'My work with Minister O'dowd, Cllrs Paul Bell, Pio Smith and Linda Bell Woods on promoting the concept of a brand new facility to secure services in Drogheda for the future decades is also advancing,' he added.
'I will work with anybody who wishes to come on board to that end.
'Already we have studied many of the trust models used in the UK to determine which model would work best for the Cottage Hospital.'
