TEENAGE Hollywood sensation Saoirse Ronan has revealed her disappointment at losing out on the part of Harry Potter's Luna Lovegood to Termonfeckin actress Evanna Lynch.

The 17-year-old from Carlow, who has starred in a number of major Hollywood hits, including Atonement and The Lovely Bones, has revealed she is a huge Harry Potter fan and would have loved to have landed the part of the ethereal Luna Lovegood in the hugely successful franchise.

Evanna, herself a huge fan of JK Rowling's record-breaking series, secured the role aged just 14 after attending an open audition in London.

After meeting Evanna, producers were in no doubt that she was perfect for the role and even author JK Rowling herself, who had written to Evanna as a fan on a number of occasions prior to her casting, felt she was perfect for the role.

Despite being devastated at missing out on the role, Oscarnominated Saoirse remained philosophical about the situation commenting: 'I was too young - but at the time I thought, 'I'd love to be in Harry Potter'. When I was younger, I used to think they had the best job in the world.'

Revealing her affection for Hogwarts and how much of a fan she is, Saoirse said: 'I can't believe it's the last one.

'I've basically grown up with Harry Potter, as so many kids my age have. It's kind of a part of my life. I'll go see it no matter what.'
