CLOGHERHEAD hung its head in collective mourning last week as Errol Dunne (25) was laid to rest at Mayne cemetery, following his huge funeral Mass at St Michael's Church on Friday morning.

In the village, the Harbour Road and the location where Errol suffered severe injuries became a floral shrine with dozens of bouquets left at the spot.

They came from family and friends with messages of grief from a community that had lost a special young man.

His nickname 'Chesty' was signed at the top of most of the cards, his smile and his friendship remembered in verse and simple words.

'I will always remember you, you helped me so much. I can never repay you. Until we meet again,' one card read, signed with a kiss of affection.

'There was some load of good times, I'm going to miss you lots,' stated another. 'Missing you like mad already, can't believe you are gone. Angel up above, I'll never forget your smile and laugh. Always in my heart,' a further poignant comment read.

Gardai confirmed this week that the investigation into Errol Dunne's death was continuing and renewed their appeal for witnesses to come forward with any information they may have.
