Property damaged by burst water pipe

Residents of Pitcher Hill have had an unwanted water feature outside their homes as water has been pouring down the hill for days.
THOUSANDS of gallons of water were lost following a burst pipe at Pitcher Hill, much to the annoyance of local residents, who also reported damage to property. However, local councillor Paul Bell was informed by council officials that there simply isn't enough hours in the day and manpower to cover the workload.
So the water was left to run, and run until last week.
'While I am satisfied that my representations brought about a degree of urgency with the burst main on Pitcher Hill, I am concerned that the story of manpower shortage in Drogheda Borough Council is not fully understood,' he stated.
'The simple fact is that staff shortages and non-replacement of staff enforced through government spending cuts are the cause of not meeting the demands of the public and not industrial action as some public representatives are hiding behind.
'It should also be noted that even through severe weather over the Christmas period Louth local authorities were not permitted to hire temporary staff.'
Cllr Bell confirmed that he would be raising the issue of outdoor staffing levels at the next Council meeting through notice of public question.
