Purple Sessions hit the right notes
FRIENDS ENJOY GREAT NIGHT IN REDZ
NIGHT Owl's first destination out on the town on Friday last was the Punt where we headed upstairs to the Purple Sessions bar to check out the open mic night. Once a month, talented people travel far and wide to entertain in Drogheda.
On entering the door we bumped into a band who were performing on the night. David Marron, Fintan Marron and Padraic Duffy all from Carrickmaccross travelled down to Drogheda for the night. The band, which is called Sanz Prit, have played in many pubs in the town however this was the first time they were playing in the Punt and were looking forward to it.
Another singer was also pictured on the night. Ray Lalor from Balbriggan was accompanied by his wife Jackie Lalor and Tom Anderson from Meadow View. Ray has performed many times at this particular event and enjoys it everytime. 'I missed last month's gig but I usually try to make it down,' added Ray. Down to support Ray on the night was Claire Cox, Kevin Lalor, Rosemary Long and Matt Long. Matt was over visiting from Canada for two weeks and was checking out what the Drogheda night life has to offer.
Every month there is talent from all over the country and on this particular night there were performers from Galway, Dublin, the Aran Islands and also local acts from Drogheda.
We left the crowd to enjoy the music and headed down to Redz where there was more people enjoying the start of the bank holiday weekend.
We headed straight upstairs and met up with three ladies who were having a girlie night out. Lisa Wallace and Claire Wallace both from Drogheda were bringing out their aunty Gwen Wallace as she was over visiting from England.
'She is here for two weeks so we decided to come out and have a few drinks together and catch up,' added Lisa. The girls were eying up the cocktail menu and planned on having a few drinks in Redz before heading over to the Star and Cresent.
Out in the smoking area there was another gang of girls having a great laugh. Audrey McEvoy from Marian Park, Karen Coyle from Clogherhead, Grace Bedford from Cherrybrook Drive and Siobhan Sarsfield from Five Oaks were enjoying their girly work night out. The girls, who work in Our Lady of Lourdes hospital, had been looking forward to the night out all week.
'We arrange to go out every couple of months just to catch up and enjoy ourselves,' added Karen. The ladies were planning on having a few more drinks in Redz before heading over to Earth where they were going to hit the dance floor.
