Sessions get under way in Punt Bar

THE Purple Sessions kick off 2010 with a great lineup this coming Friday, January 22nd, upstairs in the Punt Bar, Drogheda.

This month the sessions are bringing to Drogheda a fine selection of artists to entertain the purple sessions audience the line up includes

Heirs to Nothing are a five-piece band from the midlands, a small village called Crinkill near the town of Birr in Offaly to be exact! They play folk rock /acoustic/indie style music and the sound is very polished and well balanced.

The band was formed around two years ago by frontman Martin Bennett and Bassist TJ Brewer. Things started to happen very fast for the band during the summer, with gigs in Limerick and at home in Birr. Towards August the band decided to launch their first single. 'Lover' was launched on September 25th and was very well received, reaching no. 13 in the Irish charts, the highest new entry of that week and the only independent band in the charts at the time. The band are currently working on putting their debut album together and getting ready for their next single, expected to come out early this year.

Bobby Noonan hails from Tipperary and this young man has a beautiful collection of self-penned to woe any audience of himself he says 'I was sick of reading about myself in the third person on my own profile, so I decided to rewrite the biography... I love music, I love telling stories and I'm a shameless attention seeker! I'm awkward, I always say the wrong thing at the wrong time, and I'm a hopeless romantic! I don't dream of recognition. I am a silly little boy with a few stories he likes to tell, because I love life... the good and bad... it is all beautiful!

Mister Ebby is a piano playing songwriter from Galway who writes quirky indie pop songs. He grew up in a very musical household - two of his brothers are musicians too: Kevin Brett, and Izzy Plastic and The Manicans.

He has also played together with Anna Lee under the name Husband/Wife, as well as with The Molls and with Jazz singer Alex Hahn. Ebby is also involved In The Moon Records label, which is an independent label based in Galway city.

Hugh Patrick hails from Donegal and spends his time travelling around the country playing and writing to keep the fires burning.

Stephen J Smith is a performance poet from Tallaght who delivers his material with a pure sense of reality and feeling that makes his performances memorable and leave a lasting impression on the listener having played at every major session in the country Stephen is a very well know artist and stands well regarded by his peers.
