Shot on way to court on drug charge
Wednesday July 30 2008
Not only did the gunman pose as a builder, and coolly flagged down the 26-year-old before shooting him at point-blank range but it all happened just yards from St Paul?s National School as children were being dropped off for their classes on November 23rd, 2006.
Paul Reay, who was a father of three, was being driven to court by his younger sister, Emma Jean, who was also injured in the shooting.
He was appearing in court having been charged with having over e300,000 worth of cocaine for sale or supply and with unlawful possession of the drug.
His killers believed he had tipped off the gardaí about a big drugs haul seized near Athboy, Co Meath, the previous August. Senior gardaí denied at the time that Paul Reay had been an informant.
Superintendent Gerry Smith says ?this murder investigation is ongoing and we are still working on a number of lines of inquiry. But we always need more help from the public and anyone who has any information should contact us as soon as possible.?
