THOUSANDS of Euro worth of computers, projectors and computer monitors were taken during a burglary at St Buite's National School in Tenure last weekend.
The school was broken into at some point between 6.30pm on Saturday night and 6am on Sunday morning and gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have noticed anything suspicious or a car in the vicinity of the school at this time to contact them at Collon Garda Station.
The culprits gained entry to the school through the rear of the building, forcing their way through double doors.
A number of pieces of electronic equipment, including computers, and projectors for interactive whiteboards, were taken during the burglary.
A spokesperson for gardaí said the culprits used large navy sports kit bags from the school to carry some of the hard drives and projectors from the building.
He said one of these large kit bags had the St Buite's school crest on the front.
' They entered the school through the rear of the building and all the rooms the equipment was taken from were at the back,' said the garda spokesperson.
'We believed they took the stuff out of the back, around the side of the building and then loaded it into a waiting vehicle at the front.'
Two projectors and in excess of ten computer hard drives as well as a number of new, slim computer monitors were all taken.
'As well as the monetary loss, its the months of work the teachers have lost that are stored in the computers,' said the garda spokesperson.
'There was also one computer used for teaching children with special needs which is a huge loss to the school but would be of absolutely no use to anyone else.' Anyone with information on the incident are asked to contact gardaí in Collon on 9826102.
