A HANDBAG and mobile phone were stolen from a car while the owners attended a wedding in Donore Church last Saturday.

The car was broken into in the car park of the church between 2pm and 3pm at the same time as the High Kings' Festival was being launched across the road.

The handbag, phone and sum of cash was stolen in the incident after the side window of the car was broken. The handbag and phone were recovered after they were discarded at Julianstown.

A spokesperson for the gardaí warned anyone leaving cars in car parks or at scenic spots not to leave anything of value in the car.

'There have been and continues to be a lot of thefts from cars in recent months,' he said.

' There are people going around just looking for the opportunity. It only takes a matter of seconds to pull up alongside a car, break the window, take a bag or whatever is there, and away they go.'
