Dismal Drogs are humbled by slick UCD
DROGHEDA United succumbed to a lightning fast display from Premier Division new boys UCD on Friday night. A Ciaran Kilduff brace either side of a Greg Bolger strike gave the visitors all three points and consigned Alan Mathews' side to the foot of the table. A win for the Boynesiders would have equalled their points tally from the first 10 games of last season, but it wasn't to be as the First Division champions got their league campaign off to the best possible start.
Third time lucky for Christy
IT was a case of third time lucky for Mattock Rangers GFC as Christy Grimes picked up the coveted Drogheda Independent Sport Star of the Year gong in the Boyne Valley Hotel last Friday night.

WHEN things aren't going your way you need someone to step up and grab a game by the scruff of the neck, and on Sunday that man was Brian White.
Young Reds squander glorious opportunity
MISSED chances, a sendingoff, extra-time, some dreadful shooting by the winners; there was no shortage of drama in St Brigid's Park, Dundalk on Saturday as Dublin eventually booked a place in the semi-final with victory over Louth.
Minors satisfied with opening win
ANY kind of win in the first round of a competition is good for team morale and in this regard the management and selectors of the Louth minors will be happy with their day's work at The Ramparts on Saturday.
Our Lady's look forward to final
WITH two teams from Our Lady's College left in the running for basketball honours this season, they both traveled to Kings Hospital School in Palmerstown last to play semi finals. First up was the first year Minor A side. Playing in Division 1, this team has improved throughout the year and had rightfully found itself competing for a final placing. The opposition was St Dominic's of Cabra.
Royals can take nothing for granted on long trip to Tipp
IT might not be a long way to Tipperary but it will certainly be an early start for Meath this Sunday as their NFL division 2 tie against the Premier County in Semple Stadium has a throw-in time of 12.45.
Franchise system the way forward
THE first weekend of a new season and attendance figures across the five matches played in the Premier Division of our top soccer league make for sad reading.
No rejoicing as Dillon is pipped
COLLON/Philipstown BC had boxers competing in the Leinster Championships and Michael Andrews tournament recently, with some mixed fortunes.
Boyne's ideal preparation for Towns Cup challenge
BOYNE were assured of second place going into this game which ended their league campaign. However, whilst the result may not have altered their position in the table, coach Craig McGrath demanded full concentration ahead of next Sunday's Provincial Towns Cup tie against Tullow.

Second-half display angers boss
LIKE most intercounty managers Meath's Eamonn O'Brien rarely 'shoots from the hip' when speaking to the media. He prefers to adopt the cautious approach and even though every match is different the lyrics are always similar.
Disgruntled league chief hits back at article
GIVEN the high quality of coverage devoted to the Airtricity League in your newspaper, it was disappointing to read Gerry Kelly's article, 'Switch off the life support', which displayed a serious lack of understanding of senior football in this country. Mr. Kelly's central premise is that the Airtricity League is financially insolvent and increasingly irrelevant to football fans.
