Devlin stars as Fechin's double up

KEVIN MULLEN SHIELD GROUP A

Wednesday March 17 2010

St Fechin's 2-15 John Mitchel's 2-5 ST FECHIN'S showed no signs of fatigue as they clocked up their second Shield win in the space of 48 hours at Beaulieu last Thursday night.

Brian Devlin was to the fore again as the home side notched seven points in the first quarter before Mitchel's got off the mark with a Ryan Carroll point. Two further scores from Colm O'Neill had Fechin's 0-9 to 0-1 ahead at the interval.

Mitchel's looked as if they were going to make a game of it when Carl Courtney hit 1-1 early in the second half, but Fechin's response was emphatic as they opened up a 12-point lead with a burst of 2-5.

Best for the winners were David Collier, Mark Hynes, Jamie King and Conor Phillips, while James Clarke, Cormac Mc Cartney and Carl Courtney shone for Mitchel's.

St Fechin's 2-8 Stabannon Parnells 0-8 A THIRD-QUARTER burst of 1-3 without reply helped St Fechin's overturn a half-time deficit to win this Kevin Mullen Shield game at a freezing Beaulieu in midweek.

Stabannon grabbed the first two scores of the game before the Devlins each pointed to level the scores. The sides then exchanged points before Aongus Giggins kicked two frees to give Parnells a 0-5 to 0-3 half-time lead.

After the break the teams traded scores before that decisive burst came from Fechin's – 1-7 to 0-5 after 50 minutes.

Best for the winners were Niall Kearney, Richard McDonnell, Fergal McNally and Paul King, while Paudie Lynch, Sean and Anto Byrne and Aongus Giggins stood out for Stabannon.

STABANNON PARNELLS: Aongus Giggins 0-4 (3f), Martin King & Dean King 0-2 each. Sean McDermotts 4-8 Naomh Fionnbarra 1-13 NO shortage of goals in Mountrush as Sean McDermott's saw off Naomh Fionnbarra, despite the efforts of the losers' Bernard Osborne.

Patrick Osborne played a captain's part in taking overt that role from his brother Peter who dislocated a shoulder against Westerns. Seans led 1-7 to 0-6 at half-time.

One of the goals of the match came from Declan Carroll who got behind the defence after quicky thinking by Tony Kelly.
