Double delight for Wolfe Tones
Wednesday July 30 2008
The overall organisation of affairs at the venue had all the hallmarks of efficiency ' the provision of a traffic attendant, the attendance of PJ Geraghty, plus OgSpórt Lu's official photographer.
The competitiveness of the games resulted from some prudent grading of the teams and there was general satisfaction expressed by visiting teams.
Activity rather than victory was the spirit of the evening, but still there were three teams from the host club and St Fechin's, two from the Plunkett's and one from O'Connell's.
Pitch 1
St Joseph's 1, Oliver Plunketts 1, St Fechin's 1
Stars of this group were Plun-kett's, who played some lovely football, winning both games.
Pitch 2
St Joseph's 2
Oliver Plunkett's 2
St Fechin's 2
This was a very tight group, with points counting double ' allowing the Joes to pip the Plunkett's with two wins.
Pitch 3
St Joseph's 3, St Fechins 3, Stabannon Parnells. O' Connell's.
This was a very balanced group, with the star game taking place between the O'Connell's and Stabannon. That match ended all-square in a welter of excitement.

Host club: O'Raghallaigh's.
Co-ordinator: Patrick Mongey.
O'Raghallaigh's welcomed Dowdallshill and Wolfe Tones to a well-attended North Road on a sunny Sunday morning for the Under-11 regional blitz.Reports from this venue indicate a highly enjoyable, efficiently conducted evening of games ' three for every team, in which competing and not necessarily winning was the objective.
As in other venues there were some highly talented players on view and the skill level is improving as the year progresses. Praise all around for Ken Reilly and his helpers.
The games were intensely contested and played in the true Ógspórt Lú spirit in which competing and enjoying rather than winning is paramount.
The opening game was between O'Raghallaigh's and Wolf Tones and it was the home team who found the visitors too strong on the day.
The Wolfe Tones outfit got off to a dream start, scoring 2-1 without reply in the opening exchanges.
O'Raghallaigh's eventually got going and dominated the remainder of the half, but excellent defending by the Wolfe Tones meant O'Raghallaigh's struggled to put scores on the board.
To their great credit the O'Raghallaigh's team raised their game considerably in the second half, but the Wolfe Tones team ran out deserved winners on the day. Best for the O'Raghallaigh's team were Cillian Curran and Ryan O'Dowd and best for the Wolf Tones were Sam Kelly and Cian McCormack.
In the game between Dowdallshill and Wolfe Tones the first half was evenly contested, with Wolfe Tones leading at the break. The second half was tightly contested and the sides were only separated by a last-minute point scored by Wolfe Tones. Best for Dowdallshill were Bookie Breen and Graham Kearns and best for the Wolfe Tones were Darragh Leslie and Patrick Holcroft.
The final game was between O'Raghallaigh's and Dowdallshill and was a lively affair, with Dowdallshill running into an early lead. Gradually O'Raghallaigh's got back into contention and scored some fine points to leave the game delicately poised as the break approached.
With the game very much there for the taking, the Dowdallshill team failed to take a number of scoring chances and the O'Raghallaigh's side eventually regained control to complete a narrow one-point home win. Best for O'Raghallaigh's were Sarah McGuinness, Ciaran Tuite and James McGinn, while Simon Dunne and Paddy McAuley impressed for Dowdallshill.
