SHEELAN CUP GROUP A

Wednesday March 10 2010

Roche Emmets 2-10 Dreadnots 2-5 AN impressive second-half display saw Roche Emmets claim a Senior scalp in Clogherhead on Sunday as Dreadnots failed to build on a bright start.

Kenneth Shevlin and Peter Kirwan were in top form for the home side in the first period and the former netted his side's first goal, before Chris Mulroy added a second to send Dreadnots in sporting a 2-4 to 0-4 lead.

The second half belonged to Roche, however, and they opened with 1-4 without reply to take the lead, Gerry Murphy blasting to the net to give them the upperhand.

Peter Kirwan got Dreadnots back level but that was to be the home side's last score and a goal from Dan O'Connell put them firmly in the driving seat.

Plunkett's started the game the strongest converting two scores, however, Shane Kerrigan settled the home side with a well taken goal in the fifth minutes. For the rest of the first half the home side controlled the play to lead 1-8 to 0-3 at the break.

The game seemed out of Plunkett's reach when they took to the field in the second half, however they re-grouped and struck 2-2 in the first 10 minutes of the half, including a John Moroney penalty and another major from Dean Carolan.

However St. Bride's defence steadied themselves, and with Kevin Hilliard and Steven Mackin stepping up to the plate, converted four points in the third quarter to hold out for a two-point win.

Best for the Brides were Kevin Hilllard, Pierce Murphy and Shane Kerrigan while Cillian and Darragh Matthews, Sean Campbell and Dean Carolan impressed for the visitors.

HUNTERSTOWN Rovers gave senior opponents, Naomh Mairtin a late scare at Monasterboice on Sunday morning.

Nicky Malone's side led by six with ten minutes left on the clock, but the Jocks were left clinging on at the end as Rovers struck 1-2 in the closing stages to cut the gap to the minimum.

An Ollie Ginty strike had given Mairtin's a 1-7 to 1-5 hlaf-time lead and they extended their advantage early in the second period with anothe rmajor from Mark McCormack.

The winners were best served by Francis McCullough, Ollie Ginty, Barry Sullivan and Owen Wright, while Richie Taaffe, Chris McCann and David Finn impressed for Hunterstown.
