Gaels turn on style to lift cup

Wednesday September 01 2010

FOLLOWING a closely contested first half North Meath Gaels pulled away to easily dispose of a stubborn Moynalty challenge in this under-16 final at Carlanstown.

North Meath started in fine style with points from Daniel Myles and Shane McCabe (two) in the opening three minutes.

Moynalty responded with a penalty goal before going on to build up a five point advantage at one stage in the half.

However, boosted by an Ian Malone goal the North Meath boys fought back to be on level terms at the break, 1-8 to 2-5.

The second half proved a one-sided affair as the eventually winners completely dominated and by the 38th minute they were five points clear.

Malone, Patrick Farrelly and Shane McCabe also found the net for the winners in the second half. NORTH MEATH GAELS: Conor O'Halloran; Edward Cassidy, Padraig Carolan; Niall Yorke, Thomas McGrath, Adam Farrelly; Jonathon Finnegan, Daniel Myles 0-6; Ian Malone 2-3, Michael Finnegan, Shane McCabe 1-2; Patrick Farrelly 1-2, Tomas Conlon 0-4. Subs: Colm McEvoy for Cassidy, Luke Doran for M Finnegan, Aaron Farrelly for Conlon, Dylan Boyle for McCabe and Conor Kieran for P Farrelly.
