Joe's young guns remain unbeaten

SHEELAN CUP GROUP D

Wednesday March 17 2010

St Joseph's 1-12 St Patrick's 2-9 ST JOSEPH'S stayed unbeaten after a gutsy draw against St Patrick's who improved from their first encounter against O'Raghallaigh's.

Again Joe's fielded a mainly U-21 side, while Pat's were without their county players.

The first score was Daire Smyth for Joe's, but they trailed 1-5 to 1-3 at the break.

The visitors stretched their lead out to five points at one stage, but Joe's battled back for a point. ST JOSEPH'S: Derek Mulligan 0-5, Daire Smyth 1-0, Conal O'Hanlon 03, Mark Neary, Peter Brennan, Tommy Yore, Brendan O'Donoghue 0-1 each. Aidan Dunne. O'Raghallaigh's 2-8 Naomh Malachi 0-13 THE old cliché 'goals win matches' proved accurate at the Gaelic Grounds last Saturday as O'Raghallaigh's made it two wins from two in the Sheelan Cup.

Their major scores came from Rory Moore and Barry Flanagan,

Best for the winners were Rory Moore, Ciaran Brassil and Cathal McGinty.

The result leaves Malachis and Dundalk Gaels still pointless after two games, and they meet in round three next Sunday. Paul McKeever registered the Castlebellingham side's first four points, and at half-time they led 0-6 to 0-3, with the hosts' scores coming from Sean McCann, David Moloney and Anthony McSorley.

O'Connell's pushed on after the break, adding another 1-11 to their tally with some well-taken scores – the goal coming from Salem Rifaie – while two of the Gaels' four second-half points came in the final two minutes.

Best for the winners were Jason Carroll, Stephen Hoey, Dean Stanfield, Sean Cairns and Niall Conlon, while Jamie Faulkner, David McComish and McSorley shone for Dundalk Gaels who have now lost both of their opening games.
