Mixed fortunes for Royal ladies
BORD GAIS LADIES NFL MEATH.......................1-7 ARMAGH...................0-8
Wednesday March 10 2010
MEATH managed only one second half point from Geraldine Doherty and had to play for periods with 14 players, but still managed to hold on for the win at Culloville last Sunday.
Tempers become somewhat frayed in that second half as Meath battled strongly to preserve their lead and Kelly Allen was sin-binned for 10 minutes.
Allen had only returned to the field when teammate Ashley Leavy received straight red card.
The game began brightly for the Royals and Elaine Duffy opened the scoring with a pointed free in the third minute.
Duffy scored the all important goal midway through the half and with Bridgetta Lynch and Doherty in fine point-taking form Meath deservedly led by six at half-time.
Armagh were unable to capitalise on Meath's reduced numbers in the second half and one particularly fine save from keeper Monica McGuirk kept Meath ahead.
Meath's next outing is against Tipperary this
a Saturday, with the venue and time to be confirmed. Dublin Meath THE under-16 ladies left themselves with too much leeway to make up and they lost out to Dublin in the Leinster championship.
Dublin led 6-5 to 1-5 at half-time before Meath produced a great second half display which came up marginally short.
Star for Meath was captain Katie Callaghan, who bagged a hat-trick of goals. Laura Dempsey and Sinead Coyle also hit the back of the net.
Best for Meath were Callaghan, Emma Troy, Cliona Murray and Sarah Powderly - The Meath under-14 team travel to Timahoe to take on Laois in the championship on Saturday at 2pm.
