DULEEK/ BELLEWSTOWN and Summerhill clashed for the second time in the space of a week in Duleek on Thursday evening â?“ and it was the home side who repeated their four-point championship victory.
They are now joint second in the Division 1 league standings, and on the evidence of this latest performance will certainly be well placed to contend for a trophy.
The visitors started brighter, though, and their goal on 12 minutes which gave keeper Ricky Nolan no chance was the opening score in the tight early exchanges.
Duleek/Bellewstown hit back and Darren Mills had a goal-bound effort well saved before points from Mark Collins and Daniel Martin set them on their way.
Soon after, a goal from Brian Moore levelled matters, and with their tails up the home side added further scores before half-time through Collins and Michael Dowling to lead by two at the break.
Duleek/Bellewstown continued where they left off after the interval and Dowling pointed within a minute of the restart, before Brian Moore extended the lead to four.
Summerhill broke down the home defence for another goal on 43 minutes, but substitute Peter Curran steadied the Duleek/Bellewstown ship with a string of timely frees.
The crucial score came for the home side at the death when Ciaran Byrne, on for the injured Mark Collins, fielded well, turned and finished expertly to the back of the Summerhill net.
Duleek/Bellewstown were well served by Micheal Dowling, Stephen McArdle â?“ who impressed when introduced as a substitute for injured full-back Gordon Hynes â?“ Podge Howard and Joey Martin, while the midfield pairing of Karl McDonnell and Tony Cunningham helped themselves to most of the possession around that quarter.
