LOCAL fish merchant Patrick Kirwan netted the overall prize in the Drogheda Retail & Business Golfing Society’s opening outing of the season at Seapoint on Wednesday last.

The 19-handicapper, playing his first ever match in the Society, recorded a fine score of 41 points to leave the opposition reeling.

Captain Hugh Thornton was also in the frame, finishing second overall with 40 points. The outing, which was sponsored by Curran Connolly & Co. was played in exceptional conditions and 59 players took part.

Full results were – 1st. Patrick Kirwan (19) 41pts; 2nd. Hugh Thornton (18) 40pts.

Class 1 (0-12) – 1st. Brian Crinion (9) 40pts. 2nd. Noel Savage (12) 39pts. Class 2 (13-17) – 1st. Sean Connell (17) 40pts. 2nd. Edward McGuinness (13) 39pts. Class 3 (18+) – 1st. John Daly (18) 40pts; 2nd. Benny Carroll (22) 39pts. Front nine – Eamonn Kelly (13) 21pts. Back nine – Tony Martin (17) 21pts.

The society’s next outing is to Laytown & Bettystown on April 11. The timesheet will be with John McGovern (041 9838449) from March 29.
