St Bride's outclass St Kevin's to take title

Wednesday August 25 2010

LAST Thursday saw the girls from St Bride's and St Kevin's go head to head in the final of the 2010 U-14 Camogie League. The game was played in front of a large crowd in Stabannon in less than ideal conditions with rain pouring down for most of the match.

It was St Bride's who handled the conditions best playing some very attractive Camogie and winning by the comfortable margin of 9-2 points to 0-2.

The St Bride's girls started the better and never let St Kevin's get a foothold in the game. It was a real team effort with the whole panel getting a run out, the scorers being Amy McNally with 2-2, Kate Dullaghan netting three goals and Megan McEneany and Sarah Fagan getting two goals each.

After the match the St Bride's girls received their winner's medals with team captain Sarah Fagan accepting the Nellie Quigley Cup on behalf of the team. Sarah praised the girls from St Kevin's who never stopped trying until the final whistle and led her team in three cheers for the beaten finalists.

Special mention must go to the mentors from both teams who patrolled the sidelines throughout the game, getting a good soaking for their troubles.
