Athletes put on top show

DAY two of the Louth Summer League was held last Wednesday in the Glenmore AC grounds at Bush, where Ardee and District had a great turnout on a dry and mild evening.

First up was the U-9 Girls 300m, where Niamh Whyte did very well to come in fifth, while in the boys Rory Mc Cabe (6th) and Dylan Commins (8th) impressed.

Next up were the U-10s. In the Girls 300m, Ellen O'Brien came sixth and Saoirse Gilbert eighth. The boys also had brilliant success, with Jonathan Commins winning the Under-10 race, ahead of Danny O'Brien (3rd) and Caolan McCabe (6th). In the ball throw the boys had similar success, Jonathan winning with a throw of 29.59m, Caolan McCabe coming fourth and Danny O'Brien ninth.

In the U-11 age group, Conor McMahon had a great run in his 300m, coming in sixth, while Ardee and District had four girls compete in the U-11 events. In the 300m, Niamh Tenanty was second, Tara Mc Guinness seventh, Niamh Mc Guinness eighth and Lauren Commins 10th. The girls all competed in the ball throw and finished in very similar positions, led by Niamh Tenanty in second with a best of 19.9m.

Naoise Mc Connon did tremendously well in the Under-12 age group, winning the 600m and ball throw (21.10m).

Next up were the Boys U-14 event where Killian Byrne and Daire Mc Connon enjoyed a onetwo in the 200m, and the positions were reversed in the long jump where Daire led the way with 3.83m.

In the U-16 Girls, Ciara Leacy had a great evening, finishing second in the 200m and long jump, while Karl Faulkner won the 200m for boys.

Moving up to Under-17, Hazel Mc Guinness had three second places in the 200m, long jump (4.15m) and shot putt.

Saoirse Gilbert, Jessica Commins and Kirsten and Kerris Mc Cabe all did well in the tiny tots race, while Ardee and District had four teams in the relays – all of whom won gold!

The U-9 Boys team comprised Ciaran Mc Connon, Dylan Commins, Joe O Brien and Rory Mc Cabe, while the girls were Saoirse Gilbert, Niamh Whyte, Kerris Mc Cabe and Ellen O'Brien.

At U-11 level, the boys relay team was Jonathan Commins, Danny O'Brien, Caolan Mc Cabe and Conor Mc Mahon, while the successful girls team were Niamh Tenanty, Niamh and Tara Mc Guinness and Lauren Commins.

Round three of the Summer League takes place in Ardee on Thursday August 5th.
