Big haul of medals at Boyne meeting

LOCAL athletes travelled to Gormanston to participate in the Boyne Annual Indoor Sports and it was a great day, with medals galore being won by all different age groups.

In the U-8 boys 60m Ardee's Ciaran Mc Connon finished in 2nd place, and Jonathan Commins went one better in the U-10 60m before winning the Under-11 200m to boot.

In the Girls U-12 60m final, Niamh Tenanty and Naoise Mc Connon finished second and third respectively, and in the Under-11 200m Niamh pushed herself hard to win the gold.

Naoise Mc Connon ran in the Girls U-13 600m race, coming in 3rd place, and in the same race for the boys, it was Ardee's Brendan Leacy who stole the gold in fine style.

In the Girls U-14 60m race, Mary O'Hare came in third, while while in the 600m (U15s) she had a great finish in 2nd place.

In the same sprint for the boys, Brendan Leacy and Killian Byrne were 2nd and Killian 3rd; however, in the Boys U-15 600m, it was Daire Mc Connon in 1st place and Killian hot on his heels in 3rd place and the Ardee boys Under-15 relay team also won gold.

Dunleer also scooped a large number of medals, led by the under-8 boys team of Oisín Cheshire, Seán Reynolds, Keelin Maher, Cameron Maher and Evin Maher who had individual and relay success.

In the under-10 and 11 events, Dunleer AC girls Aoife Reynolds, Emma Cheshire, Seoda Matthews, Seaghna Campbell, Aoife Howard, Aoife Holmes and Aideen O'Rourke won individual and team medals.

Similarly in the under-10 and 11 boys events Dunleer's Kevin Ledwith, Ronan Sands, Conor Matthews, Mark Byrne, Anthony Kent, Ronan Kelly, Joe Burns, Bobby Butterly, Thomas Clarke, Simon Kelly, Harry Boylan and Cathal Reynolds claimed individual and team medals.

The under 13 and 14 Dunleer AC boys Conor Byrne, Peter Ledwith, Shane Cheshire, Dylan Maher, Andrew Clarke and Jack Boylan also competed very well and enjoyed success at both individual and team events.

St Peter's (Dromiskin) successful athletes were Ava Brennan (60m U10 2nd), Gabriel Bell (U10 2nd 60m & 2nd 200m), Nikayla Hamill (1st 600m & 3rd 60m) and Niamh Fussey (2nd 600m & 3rd 60m).

In the relays, St Peter's Girls U-13s had an excellent run winning the gold medal with Nikayla Hamill, Heather Rogers, Roisin Curley and Caoibheadh McGowan.
