Boyne star in two counties

SUNDAY was a busy day for the young athletes from Boyne AC, with competitions in counties Meath and Louth.

The first cross-country event of 2012 got under way in Haggardstown, with Blackrock AC the hosts, and in the wind and rain first to run for Boyne was Jessica Welsh who came seventh in the Girls U-11 1,000m.

And eight-year-old Jack Carolan ran a fantastic race to finish second in the Boys race.

Across the border, Cushinstown AC hosted their indoor track and field day, with Boyne taking home several titles.

The day began with Amir Cherouat taking first place in the Boys U-9 sprint, followed in second place by Karlis Kaugare. Kate Kelly then took bronze in the Girls U-10 sprint and Leanne Kaugare won the Girls U-11 30m sprint and the long jump with a best of 3.14m.

Next for Boyne, Kenza Cherouat took first in the Girls U-12 high jump, second in the shot and third in the 30m sprint.

And Niamh Kelly achieved two golds, with PBS of 1.50m in the U-16 High Jump and 4.47m in the U-15 long Jump.

The Boyne AC agm takes place this Wednesday at 7pm in the Old Hill Hall and all members are encouraged to attend.
