Celebrations all round for the Rogers family

LAST weekend four athletes from Dromiskinbased St Peter's AC competed in the National Community Games in Athlone.
Wearing the red and white of County Louth, they all performed very well, winning one gold and one silver medal.
On Sunday afternoon Emily Rogers successfully defended her Under 16 High Jump title with a winning leap of 1.65m, just 1cm short of her personal best.
She thus confirmed her status as the best high jumper of her age in the country, as last month she had taken gold at Under 17 level in the AAI National Championships.
Mark Rogers has won national medals of all hues in the 800m, High Jump, Shot Putt and Pentathlon in recent years.
On Sunday afternoon, as his older sister Emily was asserting her supremacy in the High Jump, this very versatile young athlete won his first national medal in a hurdles event.
Having come through the heats on Saturday afternoon and the semifinals on Sunday morning, he raced to a fine silver in the Under 14 80m Hurdles final.
The two other St Peter's AC athletes in Athlone at the weekend were both in action on Saturday morning.
Martin McGrane did very well on his return from injury to register a personal best of 6.94m in the Under 14 Shot Putt in what his first competition for two months.
At the same time on the other side of the arena Megan Finnegan recorded a series of fine jumps in the Under 14 Long Jump.
Meanwhile Fiona Mackin ran in the Frank Duffy 10 mile Road Race in the Phoenix Park last Saturday morning.
Although somewhat disappointed with her time of 2:12:37, she was nevertheless pleased to have finished the race, which was longer than any she had tackled previously.
